Bismarck's Carson Wentz makes National Football League history Monday

CHICAGO IL- SEPTEMBER 19 Quarterback Jay Cutler #6 of the Chicago Bears is sacked by Malcolm Jenkins #27 of the Philadelphia Eagles in the first quarter at Soldier Field

"We'll evaluate that tomorrow and split up practice as need be". His right hand also remained in a brace/cast.

Cutler has missed 15 games since the start of the 2010 season, and he has a history of injuries to his right thumb dating to his childhood. He was effective through the first two games of this season, and his absence creates a significant void on the Bears' defensive front.

He followed up a strong performance against Cleveland by completing 21 of 34 passes and playing turnover-free ball for the second straight game.

Wentz hasn't thrown a pick in 71 attempts. Even before Jay Cutler left the game with an injury the offense was pretty stagnant. "We started the season without a couple of corners, we've got some young guys that have gotten an opportunity that it seems that they're learning from - I think in some cases have excelled in - so we'll figure it out".

Just two weeks into a new season, the Browns are down two starters.

Overall, it's a group that lacks an identity. "Everything's sweet. But again, it was a football game and we came out with a win". It's fun for him so he just goes out there and he smiles and he plays and that's just a bi-product of it and you're not nervous hen all you have to do is go out there and make plays. It's the most significant advantage he has over Cutler, who was clearly hindered by his sprained right thumb against the Eagles.

Orioles Troll David Ortiz With Dugout Phone He Destroyed
Wearing a huge grin, Baltimore center fielder Adam Jones handed Ortiz the shattered phone, which was mounted on a wooden frame. Verlander (15-8) allowed four hits in six innings, including home runs by Juan Centeno and Byron Buxton.

One advantage for Hoyer, compared to most backups, is the built-in comfort level he shares with the play-caller. Hoyer was signed this offseason as part of the win-now foundation of veterans, Hoyer representing a veteran fall-back if Cutler went down, rather than turn to a young pipeline prospect.

"I prepare every week like I'm going to play, " Hoyer said.

Hoyer's transition is aided by experiences in the preseason, too. After that, he could see the end zone, but rookie center Cody Whitehair was finally able to wrestle him out of bounds at the 2-yard line.

The Bears promoted Matt Barkley from the practice squad this week. The Bears still have two WRs that can produce in Kevin White and Alshon Jeffery and an RB that will need to step in up in Jeremy Langford.

"Throughout the week, I just realized I'm going back to kind of where my life changed", Wentz said. I give week one a pass because the Houston Texans are proving themselves to be a major threat in the AFC and that defense is downright tough as well as J.J. Watt being scary as hell.
