Vikings haul injured Adrian Peterson to locker room via Restaurant

The Vikings played without Peterson for much of the 2014 season.

Even when the Minnesota Vikings beat the Green Bay Packers, and Sam Bradford outplays Aaron Rodgers, memes don't forget to make fun of Adrian Peterson injuring his knee, and being taken off the field without a cart. It's just part of professional football.

If there were any remaining doubts about a legitimate rivalry between the Packers and Vikings, they were erased in this latest head-to-head matchup.

It's not so much that Rodgers needed to run the ball on those downs, but he needed easy first downs so Lacy could keep pounding the Vikings' defense. "I'm upset about that, but we're going to fix it".

Zimmer praised the next men up in the Vikings backfield, Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata, and exuded confidence in both of them.

The Packers may eventually figure things out, but we can't just write the offense's stagnation off as nothing more than a two-week dip. Through two games, Peterson has gained just 50 yards on 31 carries, a 1.6 yard/carry average, and has not had a carry for double-digit yardage. It's just incredible. The way the fans responded, and maybe for the first time in my career, I didn't hear a lot from Packers fans on a home game.

You would think that the architects of the Minnesota Vikings' brand-new, billion-dollar stadium would have considered every possibility while designing it.

Zimmer said there is no timetable for Peterson's return, but he didn't completely rule out Peterson playing this Sunday against Carolina, though that seems highly unlikely.

At a Monday press conference, Zimmer told reporters the team is still "going through the evaluation process" and a "procedure" will be considered for the injury.

If you want to know how important it is to run the football, consider the results when the combination of Lacy and Starks rush at least 20 times.

RODGERS SAYS R-E-L-A-X: Nelson's return has been a boost, but Green Bay's offense has still been missing the quick-strike, big-play ability it has long had under Rodgers. Last Wednesday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he expected Bradford to start, and it was reported he took all of the first-team snaps that day during practice.

But then Adrian Peterson went down, hobbling off the field in the third quarter and the entire conversation shifted.

"I think we're close, at times", Rodgers said. "So we've got to do better".

Asked if Peterson might have a chance to play this week, Zimmer said, "I don't know".
