Conor McGregor, Eddie Alvarez fight will headline UFC 205 in NY

03 October, 2016

"This is the fight the fans wanted", he told ESPN, "and I'm excited that our very first event at Madison Square Garden will be headlined by Eddie Alvarez defending the lightweight title against Conor McGregor".

McGregor was said to still be feeling the affects of that five-round war but despite White's advice was keen to fight in November.

In the intermediate aftermath of McGregor's slim decision win over Diaz in UFC 202, Dana White said that there would not be a third meeting between the two fighters.

And to make things official, earlier today NY hosted the pre-fight press conference for what is now the biggest card of the year.

The stacked card also includes new welterweight champion Tyron Woodley's first title defense against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, along with strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk's defense against fellow Pole Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Both Alvarez and McGregor are due to attend a press conference at Madison Square Garden this evening, which is scheduled to begin at 11pm Irish time.

The UFC is making New York's premiere event one to remember.

With a victory, McGregor would become the first fighter ever to hold simultaneous multiple weight class titles in the UFC.

On Tuesday, in an interview with Brazilian media outlet Combate, the UFC's reigning interim champion revealed he is requesting his release from the fight promotion after six years of fighting.

Plus, former champs Miesha Tate, 30, Frankie Edgar, 34, and Rasad Evens, 37, will also be in action. "We got this fight in about six weeks and I can't wait to come down here and fight in front of all you guys".

The Dubliner will not return to the featherweight division immediately, and is bidding for history.

"After the Nate Diaz fight, he injured his foot", White said of McGregor.

I understand that he sells a lot, but it gets to a limit when it's no longer a sport, it becomes a circus.
