New Delhi:The Lok Sabha was adjourned for almost an hour soon after it met for the day as a determined opposition once again pitched for discussing the demonetisation issue under adjournment motion.

Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav said Modi's remarks were "a serious allegation against the opposition parties". Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who had taken up cudgels against Modi on the issue, termed demonetisation of high-value currency notes as the world's "biggest impromptu financial experiment" about which even the finance minister and the chief economic adviser were clueless before the announcement was made.

After ministers advertised on Wednesday that they would meet Opposition leaders to work out a House truce before resumption of the sitting, Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad called up the Trinamool representative and others early Thursday morning to share Congress apprehension that it was created to end Opposition unity (of 13 parties) as the invitation was only to Congress, AIADMK, Trinamool Congress, BJD and CPM.

As the pandemonium continued, the speaker adjourned the house for ten minutes after carrying out 50 minutes of the proceedings in the din.

As the uproar continued, Chair adourned the House till 1430 hours.

Authorities have arrested close to 38,000 people and purged more than 100,000 others from government jobs. It said 12 of them had been detained in an operation spanning four provinces.

In the Rajya Sabha, Opposition parties unitedly stalled proceedings by maintaining that debate on demonetisation can not be resumed until the prime minister is present in the House. "Prime Minister should apologise", Mr. Azad said.

At the meeting, which was attended by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, it was decided that these parties will continue to press for an adjournment motion in Lok Sabha and a debate under a rule which entails voting. Members of other Opposition parties, including the Left, were on their feet. Even though majority support the government's move on fight against black money, they are protesting against the way it was implemented as even after third week of the announcement on November 8, long queues can be seen outside ATMs and banks, with people looking to either exchange or deposit old notes. As soon as the Lok Sabha met for the day, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress demanded suspension of the question hour to take up discussion on demonetisation, which was rejected by Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. "Don't they not need money", he said attacking the government. We want to speak... "The Prime Minister can speak at a concert...but he will not come to Parliament", said Rahul. "They do not want a discussion here", he said. Everybody feels that there should be action against black money.

"Our demand is that PM represents the country and he should come to Parliament and sit through the entire debate and hear us out and the other opposition leaders".

In a bid to break the logjam in Parliament over demonetisation, the Union government today reached out to the Opposition with Parliamentary affairs minister Ananth Kumar holding talks with Congress and TMC leaders. I have been saying that the country can not be run in this manner."You have hit the economy, which was running fine. All Congress units will protest across the country on November 28", said Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala. The opposition trooped into the well of the House demanding a debate under Rule 56.
