Patrice Evra is set for a medical at Marseille as the French club close in on his signature, according to Sky sources.

Patrice Evra has joined Marseille on a free transfer from Juventus.

Evra had previously been linked with a move to Crystal Palace, but following the arrival of Jeffrey Schlupp and the expected signing of Patrick Van Aanholt it appears Sam Allardyce has opted against signing the former United defender.

The possibility of Evra remaining with Juve until the end of the season was also mooted, but it now seems certain that the Frenchman will head back to his homeland with Marseille.

Evra, who has 81 caps for France, returns to the French league after 11 years away.

The ULA was established in 2006 and is a joint venture of Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Boeing Defense, Space & Security. Meteorologist James Wieland says visibility should be good for the launch from Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.

And Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri praised Evra for his contribution to the club over the past few seasons. "He's a great champion, a great professional and I'm sorry he's left", he said.

"Many clubs were interested, but as soon as I heard that Marseille were making an offer, I did not hesitate", said Evra.

Evra won five Premier League titles with the Red Devils, as well as three League Cups and a Champions League, before beginning his successful two-and-a-half-year stint at Juventus.

"He played for 10 years at Manchester United, he came to Juventus and was a very important player for us".
