A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Wyoming, Genesee and Cattaraugus Counties from late Monday afternoon through late Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service reports the incoming storm could make for potentially hazardous driving conditions in much of the region. Snowfall amounts of six or more inches will be possible across much of the region, including the Sioux Falls area.
Rain is expected to develop from south to north later in the morning on Monday, but winds will begin to increase overnight tonight ahead of the rain, forecasters predict. While forecast models are inconsistent, some show the metro receiving 4 to 6 inches of wet, heavy snow, Bearse said.

The weather service said it has varying degrees of confidence in its storm forecast for East Idaho, so people should pay close attention to conditions and consider changing travel plans accordingly.
Temps are forecast to hover right along the freeze line during most of the event, bringing one to three inches of accumulated snow and sleet as well as one-tenth of an inch of ice accretion, according to the NWS advisory. Road closures will be possible during the storm, and chain requirements are in effect Saturday including Interstate 80, US 395, Geiger Grade and Mount Rose Highway. Snow could continue through Tuesday afternoon.
