"The US move is a breach of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)", Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday, referring to sanctions imposed on 25 Iranian individuals and entities by US President Donald Trump's administration on Friday. The entities include companies based in Tehran, the UAE, Lebanon and China.
The White House signaled a tougher stance toward Iran on Wednesday when Michael Flynn, Trump's national security adviser, said he was putting Iran "on notice" after the missile test and senior USA officials said the administration was reviewing how to respond.
Although White House spokesman Sean Spicer acknowledged that much of the legwork had been done under former president Barack Obama, he said the Trump administration "acted swiftly and decisively" after Iran's recent missile test and Iranian-backed rebels in Yemen firing on a Saudi naval vessel.
The U.S. slapped new sanctions on Iran on Friday after the Trump administration signaled it wanted to punish Tehran for its latest ballistic missile test.
Iran insists its missile test was only for defensive purposes and not a violation of the United Nations Security Council 2231 resolution or the 2015 nuclear deal with global powers.

"We are working day and night to protect Iran's security", Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards' aerospace unit, said. Iran's ballistic missile test is in violation of United Nations resolution 2231, and that its actions would not be tolerated under the new administration, Flynn noted.

Later in the day, Trump contemplated introducing a 20% import tax for products from Mexico to pay for The Wall. The rift between the neighbours and trade partners has deepened just days into Mr Trump's presidency.
"We'll never initiate war, but we can only rely on our own means of defense", Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif wrote on Twitter before the announcement.
The US government has warned the new sanctions will not be the last.
"Iran was on its last legs and ready to collapse until the US came along and gave it a life-line in the form of the Iran Deal: 150 billion dollars", he said on his Twitter handle.
On the Revolutionary Guards" Sepah news website, they said the launch would show their "complete preparedness to deal with the threats" and "humiliating sanctions' from Washington, Sky News reports. At some points, Trump vowed to strictly police the agreement.
Trump has kept his displeasure at the Iran nuclear deal no secret and has voiced to dismantle it on various occasions.
Trump declared in a tweet early on Friday.
Flynn made that comment after Iran test-fired another ballistic missile and engaged in other provocative actions, which include approaching US war ships at high speeds.
