White House press secretary Sean Spicer continued to defend the statement in a briefing Monday afternoon, and blasted those "picking on" its failure to mention Jews as "pathetic" and "nitpicking".
The White House in its statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day engaged in Holocaust denial.
The Zionist Organization of America expressed its "chagrin and deep pain" that a statement by the Trump administration marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day did not mention the Jewish victims of the Nazis.
Priebus went on to say he doesn't "regret the words", adding, "I mean, everyone's suffering in the Holocaust, including obviously all of the Jewish people affected and the miserable genocide that occurred, is something that we consider to be extraordinarily sad and something that can never be forgotten". But in the days since the January 27 statement - made on a date specifically chosen by the United Nations for such commemorations, as it is the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of Auschwitz - your spokespeople have doubled down, tripled down, nay, quadrupled down on the statement, explaining it as an attempt to show inclusivity in the realm of Holocaust remembrance.

In any other time and place, White House chief of staff Reince Priebus would be howling about a Democratic administration issuing the same statement as the Trump administration.
