US airlines have scrapped about 5,400 flights Tuesday as a late-winter storm dumps snow on some of the nation's busiest airports.

The National Weather Service has already announced a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for New Hampshire starting Tuesday morning, March 14, through Wednesday evening, March 15. The markets affected include New York City, Newark, Boston, Washington D.C, Philadelphia and Baltimore.

"Due to the potential impact of winter storm Stella on flight operations at United States east coast airports, several Emirates flights scheduled to operate on March 14 have been delayed or cancelled", said a spokeswoman for Emirates.

Some of Tuesday's cancellations include 880 flights on Southwest Airlines, 616 flights on JetBlue, and 524 flights on American Airlines.

Numerous flights into the Cancun International Airport have been canceled due to a relentless snowstorm in the eastern United States. Her 5:30 p.m. flight out of Miami International Airport into New York's LaGuardia was changed to 7:30 and then canceled altogether. All American flights out of Boston's Logan Airport on Tuesday also were canceled with plans to resume operationsWednesday.
