They appeared to have been murdered with a sharp-edged instrument, suggesting they may have been victims of gang violence that has plagued the area in recent years.

Police also said that the way the four were killed is consistent with methods used by the gang MS-13.

MS-13, also known as La Mara Salvatrucha, is one of the largest criminal organizations in the United States, with more than 6,000 members in at least 46 states and the District of Columbia, the US Attorney's Office said.

Suffolk Assistant Police Commissioner Justin Meyers the the bodies "suffered significant trauma", adding that they were no skeletal remains.

Sini said, "This is certainly a reminder of how violent they are, that they're still here".

Sini said Thursday that investigators would continue with strategies, including concentrating on intelligence, that have been working to tamp down gang activity in an "all-hands-on-deck" assault. The identities of the males, who are 16, 18, 18 and 20 years old, are not being released pending positive identification. 'This is a long-term war and make no mistake about it - it's a war.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, the two additional victims are Jefferson Villalobos, 18, and Michael Banegas, 18, according to family members.

Nisa Mickens, 15, was found in the street a day before her best friend Kayla Cuevas, 16, whose body was discovered in the backyard of a home.

The 18-year-old was one of four young men brutally executed near a Central Islip park, leaving his heartbroken mother and sister to explain how the youth could not escape the gangbangers of MS-13.

"A group of them came out with machetes and was yelling at them telling them to kneel down", she said. MS-13 members are suspected in all of the deaths.

Their discovery comes about a month after the arrest of eight MS-13 gang members in connection with the September killings of two teenage girls in nearby Brentwood.

No arrests have been made in Wednesday's grisly discovery.

Police have not commented on whether the bodies found on Wednesday could be linked to the earlier murders or if the victims were teenagers or young adults.

Sini announced a $25,000 "fast cash reward" - to be paid within 72 hours and in conjunction with Suffolk Crime Stoppers - for information leading to the arrest of whoever committed the killings, and stressed that the department is working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to solve the case.
