InfoWars founder and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is a "performance artist" who is simply playing a role, his attorney reportedly said during a recent custody hearing. Judging Jones based on his broadcasts, Wilhite said, would be like judging Jack Nicholson from his portrayal of the Joker.
That said, Jones has become a notable figure in conservative media, and if his own attorney describes his client as "a performance artist" - effectively characterizing Jones' weird persona as a fictional "character" - that's an important acknowledgement for the public to be aware of.
Mr. Jones has been known for peddling highly controversial conspiracies theories, like accusing the USA government of being involved in orchestrating the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
"He's playing a character" and is nothing like his online persona, attorney Randall Wilhite reportedly insisted in a Texas courtroom at a pre-trial hearing ahead of the right wing radio jock's custody battle with ex-wife Kelly Jones. By contrast, Kelly Jones insists that "he's not a stable person".
One of the clips Kelly urged the court to consider was Alex's recent rant against Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA), in which he called Schiff "the archetypal cocksucker" and a "fairy, hopping around", before threatening violence against the lawmaker.
"He broadcasts from home", she continued. "The children are there, watching him broadcast".

Federal law already prohibits government money for abortion, except in cases of rape or incest or to save a woman's life. Trump even invited top right-wing activists to the Oval Office to watch him sign the legislation.
Major League Baseball celebrates Jackie Robinson's breaking of color barrier
Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in 1947 by becoming the first African-American to play baseball in the major leagues. Many historians believe Robinson's breakthrough was an early step that eventually led to other civil rights breakthroughs.

About 431,000 US crude contracts changed hands Thursday, short of the 531,000-contract average over the past 200 trading days. West Texas Intermediate for May delivery rose 7 cents to settle at $US53.18 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Later, Jones-who has said in the past that he actually believes what he says on the air-said the rant at Schiff was "clearly tongue-in-cheek" and "basically [an] art performance". "He says he wants to break Alec Baldwin's neck".

Jones' Infowars site was a hub for anti-Clinton conspiracies during the presidential campaign and Trump publicly thanked him for his support. "You piece of s**t", Jones said.
Jones has claimed that he occasionally speaks with Trump on the phone, and a fair number of Trump's unfounded allegations ― like his claim that millions of people voted illegally for Hillary Clinton ― were theories that InfoWars earlier promoted.
