Charlotte to host ACC Football Championship Game through 2020

The NCAA announced tournament sites for the next five years Tuesday which includes North Carolina locations.

The Atlantic Coast Conference is returning championship events to North Carolina, including its title football game in Charlotte, now that North Carolina's controversial House Bill 2 is off the books.

Women's Basketball: The ACC Women's Basketball Tournament will return to Greensboro for the 18th time in 19 years between February 28-March 4, 2018.

Similar boycotts by other sports organizations, companies and entertainers cost North Carolina hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business.

The 2018 ACC Women's Swimming & Diving and Men's Diving Championships will be held February 14-17 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, while the ACC Men's Swimming Championship is set for February 21-24.

A compromise last month replaced HB2 with a new state law that includes a modified version of HB2's restrictions on local-government protections for LGBT people.

The NCAA announced Tuesday that the 2020 and 2021 Stagg Bowls will be played at the newly-renovated Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, next door to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper signed a compromise bill March 30 after it was approved by the Republican-controlled legislature.

On Tuesday, following the state passage of a fig leaf of a bill that did little to reverse discrimination against LGBTQ citizens in North Carolina, the NCAA caved, following the fine example set by the National Basketball Association.

The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament schedule for the next three years remains in place. HB 142 also says that local governments can not pass ordinances protecting LGBT people - or anyone else - from discrimination in employment or public places until 2020. Though the case, one in which the NCAA is a plaintiff, should make its way to the Supreme Court at some point this year, the NCAA decided that the time was right grant two Division III events to New Jersey.

The ACC's announcement comes the day after the NCAA announced championship events would return to Greensboro, Wintson-Salem, Cary and Raleigh.

Future regional semifinal and final sites are nearly all experienced with hosting the event.
