BEIJING/TAWANG, India China said on Wednesday that India's decision to host Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on a contested stretch of land on the India-China border would cause serious damage to relations between the two countries. The Dalai Lama's week-long trip to Arunchal Pradesh, an eastern Himalayan region administered by New Delhi, but claimed by China as "southern Tibet", has raised hackles in Beijing, which labels the monk a unsafe separatist.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, addressing a regular briefing, voiced her country's "firm opposition" to the Dalai Lama's visit and said Beijing would lodge "stern representations with the Indian side".

The Dalai Lama, 81, arrived in the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, part of which is claimed as "South Tibet" by Beijing, on Tuesday for the first day of a nine-day trip that was sanctioned by the Indian government and during which he plans to hold several religious teachings throughout the region.

"Beijing has no right to threaten Delhi on the Dalai Lama's movement within the country as India shares boundary with Tibet and not China", Khandu told IANS.

"Arranging his activities in this sensitive area where China and India have territorial disputes not only violates India's commitment on Tibet-related issues, but also fuels the border dispute", Hua said.

The Chinese spokesperson also stated that it goes against the momentum of the sound growth of bilateral relations and will not benefit India in anyway.

As the Tibetan spiritual leader entered Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh to proceed to Tawang for a major Buddhist event, China struck a strident note in its protest against the move.

In major cities like NY and Philly, you also can also avoid traffic (like I-95's never-ending construction) by taking the train. He's absolutely correct that NJ Transit is the "absolute worst" and also "incompetent", but he didn't end up missing the game.

The whole incident triggered war of words between India and China with India making its stand clear that the Dalai Lama is a revered religious leader and has visited Arunachal earlier on half a dozen occasions.

In anticipation of the Dalai Lama's arrival, Ngawang Norbu, the head Lama at Tawang monastery, dismissed China's criticism over the visit as a "mere display of politics between the concerned countries", in an interview with RFA's Tibetan Service. "The answer is known to all".

Chinese officials in off the record conversations with the media said China is really angry about the Dalai Lama's visit specially because he was accompanied by a minister.

Speaking on importance of inner peace, the Dalai Lama said the more positive you are, the better you feel. We are very much willing to remain within China.

The Dalai Lama thanked Indian government for letting him visit the frontier state. For material development, remain within China.

He also referred to Arunachal Pradesh as place with special meaning to him, as he entered India through the region almost 60 years ago, before settling in Dharamsala-the seat of the Tibetan government in exile, in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. India has taken great care of me. I have an emotional connect with the state.

"I would like to thank the government of India".
