According to Quartz, unusually strong winds and rising Arctic temperatures could be responsible for an increase in icebergs in the area, including the one stuck in Ferryland.
It's proving a bumper season for iceberg spotters, with more than 600 sighted so far, but the undoubted star is a towering hulk 150ft (46m) high that has cruised up to a headland near the town of Ferryland, Newfoundland.
Ferrlyand, Newfoundland is a popular spot, and dozens of tourists flocked there over the weekend to take pictures of one of the first icebergs of the season as it appeared to have become grounded off the coast.
Kavanagh said the number of visitors took him by surprise, adding that the "onslaught" showed that people are interested "in that kind of stuff". "It's a huge iceberg and it's in so close that people can get a good photograph of it". But a massive iceberg sitting just offshore has lately been drawing crowds to the community, even as it slowly drifts away.

Shocking News!! Vidya Balan's "Begum Jaan' Has Been BANNED In Pakistan"
The film is set at a time when the country has just tasted independence and then the traumatic phase of partition begins. Begum Jaan (Vidya Balan), a hookah lover with a sharp tongue, is the owner of a brothel, which she calls her palace.
He's lived in St. John's his entire life and said the icebergs "are awesome to see in person".
Icebergs are a growing tourist attraction in Newfoundland and this year the season is beginning with some wonderful sights. Local Don Costello told CBC News the iceberg probably won't be moving unless winds keep blowing because it's stuck on shallow ground.
Kavanagh said while it's great for tourism, fishermen aren't so "particular about ice and the icebergs". Greenland's ice sheets are accelerating their ice shedding which is resulting in more, and bigger, icebergs. Still, it's nowhere near the biggest classification of icebergs tracked by the Canadian Ice Service.
It's already been a particularly busy iceberg season.
