Forbes ranks the New York Yankees as baseball's most valuable team for the 20th straight year and lists the Tampa Bay Rays with the lowest valuation.

Michael Pineda showed Yankees fans on Monday what he's capable of doing. Instead, they collectively hold their breath, and wait for the proverbial shoe to drop.

He started Tampa's season opener last Thursday, striking out eight while allowing three hits, one walk and one unearned run in five innings of a 2-1 loss to Lakeland. And that he was, attacking and continuing to throw strikes in becoming the first Yankees pitcher to be flawless through at least 6.2 innings since Andy Pettitte in August of 2009. This has been the crux of Pineda's career: giving up runs and having unbelievable peripheral numbers.

Justin Verlander and Chris Sale dominated in a matchup of ace pitchers before Nicholas Castellanos singled in the go-ahead run off Sale in the eighth inning, lifting the Detroit Tigers over the Boston Red Sox 2-1.

Evan Longoria broke things up with two outs in the seventh with a double down the right field line, but Pineda was still fantastic in his second start of the season. A video review was needed to determine it was a home run.

Mets 4, Phillies 3: Jay Bruce homered twice, including the tiebreaking shot in a testy eighth inning to lead NY over Philadelphia. The biggest hindrance for him on that day was a string of two-out hits that came off his fastball.

After breaking up the ideal game in the seventh, the Rays ended Pineda's bid for a shutout in the eighth, as Logan Morrison hit a ball just over the wall in right, though it took a replay review for the umps to confirm what seemed obvious. They were the reason for 9 of his 11 strikeouts on the day. The Giants will take no chances and he is likely to sit out Tuesday's game.

Lawyer says Trump administration moved to squelch testimony
In his Tuesday briefing, press secretary Sean Spicer said that the White House did not weigh in on whether Yates could testify. Nunes told reporters Tuesday morning. "I've been around for quite a while and I've never heard of such thing".

Tyler Clippard and Chasen Shreve combined for ideal relief.

NOTES: The Yankees announced that an MRI exam on C Gary Sanchez (strained right biceps) revealed a Grade One strain of the right brachialis muscle.

Even the Rays batters were marveling at Pineda's performance.

"You kind of know what he's gonna throw for the most part", said Longoria, who is 7-for-38 against Pineda. "I feel good, though", Pineda said. "He had his slider going pretty good". He could bury it, put it on the corner. "At no point in time did he lose that control".

Monday's game was the 115th home opener in Yankees franchise history.

Agitated Yankee fans have berated Martha Stewart on Twitter after believing she "jinxed" pitcher Michael Pineda into missing out on a no-hitter on Monday afternoon. Because this is fun stuff and just the beginning of the source of excitement this team has been building on and promising its fans.
