Social media feeds of militant left-wing and right-wing activists remained abuzz with vows to proceed with the demonstrations and counter-demonstrations that had been expected to accompany a Coulter appearance.
Conservative pundit Ann Coulter says that while her speech at the University of California, Berkeley was canceled, she may still show up to say hello to her supporters.

"The police have basically said there is going to be violence, which is an odd thing for police to say since they are supposed to stop violence", former lead investigative reporter at Breitbart and current Sputnik Radio host Lee Stranahan told Sputnik's Fault Lines.
University officials learned of the event being scheduled for April 27 when they read about it in a newspaper, he said.
"I live in Berkeley, like I said earlier". Six people were arrested, including one for obstructing an officer and wearing a mask to evade police, and another for possessing a knife.
"Many of the individuals and organizations which planned to protest Ann Coulter's appearance or support it still intend to come to campus", a university spokesman said.

Students and faculty who had clearly violated own Berkeley's code of conduct, if not civil law, went unpunished, sending another powerful message that only emboldens protestors to repeat their behavior the next time.
Coulter did not appear Thursday at a Berkeley rally defending her right to free speech on the day her speech had been planned, but she did make a brief appearance just after the event ended on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" on Fox News. He blamed people opposed to Coulter and President Donald Trump for forcing him to gear up for problems.
Hundreds of Coulter's supporters gathered about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from the university's main Sproul Plaza at the Martin Luther King Jr. Some had "Build That Wall" or Trump stickers across their headgear. In one instance, police could be seen handcuffing a man on the sidewalk. "Speech cannot be financially burdened, any more than it can be punished or banned, simply because it might offend a hostile mob". Students should not and can not be allowed to take over a campus and hijack the robust exchange of ideas-even if they think they have the best intentions and are promoting a virtuous, progressive agenda. Her latest book is titled Adios America: The Left's Plan to Turn Our Country into a Third World Hellhole. "She is an American hero". It said it supports minimal government and is also anti-political correctness, anti-racial guilt and pro-gun rights.
Ann Coulter was nowhere to be found in Berkeley on Thursday, but hundreds of protesters showed up anyway.
Police and university officials have said they were bracing for trouble whether or not she decides to show.
So far, there's no sign of opponents, or so-called anti-fascists who have violently clashed with the far-right demonstrators previously in Berkeley.
"It's true that in recent months, protests on or near this bucolic campus have turned violent", CNN said.
