G-7 leaders were unable to reach unanimous agreement on climate change after U.S. President Donald Trump said he needed more time to decide whether to back a key climate accord.

Trump returned to the White House late Saturday from a nine-day foreign tour that he described as a "great success for America".

Addressing a crowd at an election rally in Munich, Merkel said that in the last few days, she had "experienced" that Germany and other European countries no longer can "completely rely on others".

Her main challenger, the Social Democrat's chancellor candidate Martin Schulz, was even more outspoken in his comments about the G-7 and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meetings last week, saying Sunday night the summits made clear Pres. Trump was a "president of the United States of America who wants to humiliate others, who presents himself like an authoritarian ruler".

Her spokesman, Steffen Seibert, told reporters Merkel felt it was right to flag differences in Germany's ties with the United States in order to maintain healthy relations.

Mrs Merkel sent shockwaves through Washington and London by saying on Sunday that Europe must take its fate into its own hands, implying that the U.S. under President Donald Trump and Britain after its Brexit vote were no longer reliable partners.

Our hotels were working with police throughout the night, but we did not have a group of unaccompanied children at our hotel". Now 22 people are dead and 59 are injured following an improvised explosive device being set of inside that venue.

U.S. -German relations "are a strong pillar of our foreign and security policy, and Germany will continue working to strengthen these relations", Seibert said.

"I experienced that in the last a few days, and therefore I can only say that we Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands, of course in friendship with the United States and in friendship with Great Britain and as good neighbors wherever it is possible, also with Russian Federation and also with all the other countries".

In Brussels, Donald Trump said that Germany was "very bad" because of its trade surplus (Germany is Europe top exporter) and the fact that "ome German auto companies manufacture in Mexico for importing into the United States, even though many of them produce cars in American factories with American workers", as reported in The New York Times.

"You don't want to be sitting too comfortably in Trump's boat, or in Trump's boat at all, because Trump's not liked here", she said.

Then, at the Group of Seven summit of leaders of major world economies on Friday and Saturday, he refused to endorse the Paris agreements on combating climate change, punting a decision until next week. According to polls, the sister parties are expected to win the upcoming general election, securing Merkel a fourth term as Germany Chancellor.

"I've never seen her in 12 years give up on anything", she said.
