The House Oversight Committee on Tuesday evening requested a copy of recently FBI Director Comey's memorandum on the Flynn investigation following The New York Times report stating that Comey documented in a memorandum the contents of a February meeting with President Donald Trump in which the president told Comey that he hoped the Bureau would not pursue the Flynn investigation.
The Department of Justice threw a curveball into the mix late Wednesday with the announcement that former FBI Director Robert Mueller had been appointed special counsel on the Russian Federation investigation, taking it over from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The Senate Intelligence Committee also wants Comey to testify both publicly and in private.
The House oversight committee said Wednesday that it will hold a May 24 hearing to investigate if Trump interfered in FBI probe, and that it has asked former FBI Director James Comey to testify.
The letters come on the heels of a New York Times report that Comey had written a memo detailing a conversation with the president in which Trump allegedly asked him to stop the inquiry into National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Republicans, meanwhile, have continued asking questions about the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server past year. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, on Wednesday said the committee planned to invite Comey to testify during a public hearing next week.

Concerns have also been raised over the potential fire risk from storing large stocks of electronics in checked luggage. Nonetheless, airlines have said it is merely a matter of time before the ban is put in place.
Trump asked Comey to shut down Flynn investigation
Despite Trump's plea to the ex-FBI director, the probe into Flynn's ties to Russian Federation continued. An unnamed source also told CNN Comey was "so appalled by the request that he wanted to document it".
Cavaliers jerseys to have Goodyear logo next season
When the Cleveland Cavaliers take the court next season, there will be a new logo on their jerseys - the Goodyear wingfoot. Bloomberg first reported the deal in February about the Goodyear logo being placed on the Cavaliers jerseys.
The White House has denied that Trump attempted to influence the investigation.
"I think personally, I think we will hear more from my Republican colleagues", Warner said.
The Judiciary Committee letter to the White House mentioned the Times article, saying "the article alleged that Mr. Comey had memorialized a conversation with the President in which the President made statements that have been interpreted as asking the Federal Bureau of Investigation to clear Mr. Flynn of alleged wrongdoing".
Trump's firing last week of Comey raised concerns about whether the president was trying to sideline the Russia probe, which is examining Russian ties to his 2016 presidential campaign.
Chaffetz also questioned the appointment of a special counsel to take over the investigation into possible Russian interference during the 2016 US election, which Comey had been leading until he was sacked.
President Trump's "showboat" comment about James Comey drew instant pushback from the leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
