Woods, who is now sidelined from competition after having his fourth back surgery in April, said last week that he felt better than he had in years and had no plans to retire from competitive golf. Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office records indicate the 41-year-old was booked shortly after 7am and released at 10:50am under his own recognizance.

The 14-time major victor was reportedly picked up at around 3am on Monday, May 29, according to local news station WPTV.

A police report then showed that a Florida trooper who suspected Woods was driving under the influence sought a subpoena for the golfer's blood test results from the hospital, but prosecutors rejected the petition for insufficient information.

Rightler said she didn't know where Woods was coming from or going to in the vehicle and that the arrest report should be available Tuesday.

Woods last played golf professionally at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February.

The arrest occurred about 3 a.m. during a traffic stop off Military Trail, just south of Indian Creek Parkway, according to Jupiter police spokesperson Kristin Rightler.

Woods has been one of America's top golfers over the last 25 years, winning 14 major titles and 79 PGA Tour events overall.

Woods had hoped to make a comeback this year, but persistent back injuries, and several surgeries, have prevented him from playing.

"I could no longer live with the pain I had", Woods wrote on his blog.

He said the outlook for a return to competitive golf was "positive" but that he was not in a "hurry".

"It was instant nerve relief, " Woods wrote. "We tried every possible non-surgical route and nothing worked", he added. Soon after that meeting, the Golden Bear said he spoke to an acquaintance (Nicklaus wouldn't say who), who said of Woods, "He won't be back". It was soon discovered that his then-wife, Elin, had hurled a golf club at the auto after having learned that Woods cheated on her.
