During that time, passengers suffered broken bones, cuts and other injuries as some hit the overhead bins and others were struck by falling luggage, according to state news agency Xinhua.
Another passenger said: "We applauded when the plane landed safely".
The exact number of injured passengers was being verified, Xinhua said. "Many people were injured, and among them, many had not buckled up".

On its online Weibo account, China Eastern Airlines said it had arranged medical services for the flight's passengers, without confirming details of the injuries.
