Celtics trade No. 1 overall draft pick to 76ers

The Celtics agreed to send the No. 1 overall selection to the Sixers in exchange for No. 3 and a protected future first-round pick, a deal that was agreed to over the weekend and finalized Monday. The team will receive a 2018 or 2019 draft pick from the 76ers, depending where the 2018 pick ultimately falls.

In addition to this year's No. 3 choice, the Celtics received another first-round pick that comes with several conditions.

The Sixers used the No. 1 pick a year ago on Ben Simmons, who missed the entire season because of a foot injury. For now, Boston has seven first-round picks in the next three years. With the Celtics now owning the third pick, Smith thinks they'll engage in trade talks with the Bulls.

If the Kings or Sixers pick in 2019 ends up winning the lottery, Philadelphia keeps that and Boston will get the other pick.

Or is it the Celtics, a very good team that just added more assets and a chance to select a player likely comparable to Fultz with the No. 3 pick on June 22? While there have been inquires on the No. 2 pick, sources said it remains unlikely the Lakers would trade out of that position. If the Celtics decide to make a move for a star before the draft, they could be in position to make serious noise in the National Basketball Association next season. He draft record is not quite as good as his trading record, but after all the work Ainge has put in to get the Celtics to this point, he deserves the opportunity to make the best decision for this team with the third overall pick. The Celtics took Jaylen Brown out of Cal past year and watched him struggle to acclimate to the National Basketball Association game. "I'm blessed enough. I pray every night before I go to sleep, and I let God take care of it, really". "Boston needs to continue to do what they look like they're doing, which is draft smart and make some savvy signings".

In the other semi-final, SoftBank Team Japan lead Sweden's Artemis Racing 3-1 ahead of their two races on Thursday. In the third race, SoftBank Team Japan didn't give Artemis enough room at the fifth gate mark and was penalized.

With Thomas, the Celtics didn't necessarily need a point guard - which is the piece Philadelphia apparently wanted most.

All indications are the 76ers will select Fultz, who grew up in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and played his freshman season at the University of Washington.

In his only season with Washington, Fultz averaged 23.2 points and 5.9 assists.

"I am incredibly excited that we've acquired the No. 1 overall pick in Thursday's National Basketball Association draft", 76ers managing general partner Josh Harris said.

Together with Simmons, Jahlil Okafor and 2017 NBA Rookie of the Year finalists Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, the 76ers will have a young core of talent that could provide a formidable base upon which to rebuild the team. If Ainge strays away from conventional opinion once again, and takes a player that many are predicting to go outside of the top five, then he will be all alone on an island, hoping Brad Stevens can turn his pick into the kind of star the other players are being touted as.
