An American college student who emerged from prison in North Korea in a coma has severe brain damage, but doctors don't know what caused it, a medical team treating him in OH said Thursday. Warmbier said Trump was "very candid" during the call and told him Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and other US officials worked hard to negotiate Otto Warmbier's release. "Relief that Otto is now home in the arms of those who love him, and anger that he was so brutally treated for so long", Mr. Warmbier said.
Warmbier, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student from Cincinnati who was in North Korea as a tourist, looked set to follow the usual pattern. Richardson, who has been in close contact with the Warmbier family, said he did not believe Pyongyang's explanation that the student's condition was the result of botulism and a sleeping pill.
Kanter said there is no way to tell for certain how Warmbier sustained his injuries.

Warmbier was arrested on January 2, 2016, while trying to board a plane out of North Korea. White calls him a "curious boy" and says his adventurous nature led him to travel extensively during summers.

The doctors said they had no information about the care he received in North Korea. The U.S. says North Korea is using detained Americans as political pawns, while Pyongyang has accused Washington and Seoul of sending spies to overthrow the regime.
"We have no certifiable knowledge of the cause or circumstances of his neurological injuries", Dr. Daniel Kanter, professor of neurology and director of the Neurocritical Care Program at the University of Cincinnati, said at the press conference. USA doctors said they found no evidence of active botulism, a rare, serious illness caused by contaminated food or a dirty wound. North Korea accuses Washington and South Korea of sending spies to overthrow its government.
He also praised the Trump administration for working to free his son, and made clear his displeasure with the Obama administration officials who he said had advised the family to stay quiet to avoid antagonizing the North. They wanted Otto home. "I just said kind of quite nervously, 'Well, that's the last we'll see of you.' There's a great irony in those words". I think the results speak for themselves.
