Major League Baseball plans to reduce Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper's suspension for Monday's bench-clearing brawl from four games to three games, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

He will begin serving the suspension when the Washington Nationals face the Giants on Wednesday night.

The punishment stemmed from a bench-clearing brawl on Monday after Harper was hit by a 98 miles per hour fastball from Giants reliever Hunter Strickland.

Each also was fined an undisclosed amount.

However, both Harper and Baker said that it appeared the Giants were surprised by the beaning and that Buster Posey the Giants catcher did not make an attempt to stop an irate Harper from reaching the pitcher. "See what they do and figure it out". He went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts, booed vociferously by the crowd at AT&T Park every time he stepped to the plate.

The 24-year-old Harper is second in the National League with 15 home runs and is hitting.322 average with 41 RBIs.

However, that could all change today depending on the results of the absentee ballots in the riding of Courtenay-Comox. No ridings flipped between parties, but two tight races in Metro Vancouver were called early on Tuesday evening.

"It's just insane that it even happened yesterday after three years to do that", Harper said. If he did have a problem, he could've talked to me in BP about it and say: 'I didn't like the way you went about it.' But that's not human nature, I guess.

Giants teammates Michael Morse and Jeff Samardzija collided hard as they tried to get between the two fighters, and Harper said it could have been more serious if that hadn't happened.

Washington led 2-0 with two outs in the eighth and none on when Strickland drilled Harper on the first pitch — a 98 miles per hour fastball.

Morse got the worst of the collision and was placed on the seven-day concussion disabled list Tuesday.

"This is why we don't have our pitchers throw at guys or start things, because that's what the other team would do too, " Bochy said.
