Real Madrid is celebrating its 12th European Cup with its fans back in the Spanish capital.

The second marker brought the four-time Ballon d'Or victor to 600 goals for club and country, including a record 105 in the Champions League.

After Mario Mandzukic scored an incredible first-half equaliser with an audacious overhead kick, Real didn't let the Italians get away from them.

Casemiro fired Zinedine Zidane's side into the lead on 61 minutes and Ronaldo struck again three minutes later, before Marco Asensio wrapped it up in stoppage time.

Real Madrid became the first team in the Champions League era to win back-to-back titles with their 4-1 victory over Juventus in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday. AC Milan were the last team to retain Europe's top prize when they triumphed in 1989 and 1990. Barcelona would say otherwise, but Skopje will play host to arguably the two biggest and best supported clubs in the world in two months' time.

"We won a double that will be in history".

United spent the season in the Europa League because they failed to qualify for the Champions League and, by finishing sixth in the Premier League this year, would have missed out again but for the Europa League win against Ajax and Stockholm.

When Juventus enjoyed spells of pressure in the first half, they largely held firm. All we can keep doing is keep working hard and hopefully there will be more to come."I think we can get better".

Of course, Real's win was about much more than the contribution of their Portugal forward.

Madrid drew first blood in the 20th minute when Ronaldo flicked the ball wide to Dani Carvajal before artfully sweeping the Spaniard's return pass into the bottom-left corner via a nick off Leonardo Bonucci.

Ronaldo delivered the fatal blow three minutes later, tucking the ball just inside the post with a major assist from Modric. Despite having his back to goal and seeing defenders closing him down, he somehow sent a remarkable, acrobatic right-footed strike looping over Real keeper Keylor Navas, and Juventus were level.

Italy great Buffon, 39, has now lost in three Champions League finals, after previous disappointments in 2003 and 2015, while Juve have lost in their last five European Cup finals, taking their tally of runner-up finishes to seven.

Asensio tucked in the fourth goal after Marcelo had charged to the byline and Real's dominance was complete.

"This year was awesome again, last year was fantastic too".
