Thomas shoots 63, trails Harman by 1 at US Open

LI Haotong made a small piece of history by surviving the halfway cut at the US Open, but closed out a frustrating third round with a quadruple-bogey at the par-5 18th on Saturday.

A few moment after Leishman's troubles, American Thomas, already riding a brilliant round as he stood on the 18 fairway, hit the shot of the tournament - a 273m three-wood second shot at the par-five that landed on the front of the green, nearly hit the flag and stopped less than 3m behind the cup.

Thomas joins Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Johnny Miller and Vijay Singh as players to fire 63s at a U.S. Open.

But nearly as soon as he signed his card, Thomas was overtaken by the understated Brian Harman, who'll take a one-shot lead into tomorrow's final round after his own dazzling 63 on a day of incredible scoring.

"I felt like my game has been good enough to compete in the majors this year". At that point, he was leading by seven shots. I'll take Koepka over Justin Thomas on Monday. Furyk was never seriously challenged in the final round, and he wound up winning by three shots and matching what was then the U.S. Open record at 272. Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka appear super-relaxed as they smile their way around the course -and the potentially ruinous meltdown Fleetwood just about fended off on 18 yesterday may stand him in good stead when the pressure rises today. "I started pushing a little bit, going for pins I shouldn't have".

The course had been softened by rain earlier in the week, and it finally played the way the USGA wanted in the final round. There were five players in double digits Saturday at Erin Hills. "When you give us soft greens, good greens and not much wind, you know there are going to be some good scores". But, obviously, his 67 with six birdies and one bogey was a pretty good round.

Thomas posted the fifth 63 in U.S. Open history, but it is the first to take place in the third round.

The lead, however, belonged to Harman, who closed with two birdies and three tough pars.

Warriors' Green stays in Game 4 after technical foul fiasco
Game 4 Friday was a physically demanding, emotionally draining 48-minute exercise that took almost three hours. As an athlete, one of the best feelings is going into enemy territory and just silencing their crowd.

"I've got a good plan for this course".

While Fowler has been mostly consistent in his play, the same can't necessarily be said for others at or near the top of the leaderboard.

"It's going to be weird", Thomas said about the time he has to pass before teeing off on Sunday. Patrick Reed, Paul Casey, Brian Harman and Tommy Fleetwood are at 8 under.

"Sometimes you just have to play them (majors) until you get really comfortable". "I don't know what I'm going to feel tonight, if I'm going to sleep well".

With 18-holes to play at Erin Hills, 16 players are within six shots of the lead held by American Brian Harman on 12-under-par.

"Well, it would change my life, I know that", Fleetwood told reporters.

A three-time victor on the PGA Tour this season, Thomas also joined the exclusive "59" club by breaking 60 at the Sony Open, but he may have saved his best for Father's Day weekend and his quest for his first major crown. "It's long. If I'm not smacking it my Sunday best on some of those tee balls, then I'm back there pretty far".

Fleetwood insisted he will not be overawed by being in contention for the first time in a major championship, and he is determined to retain the same mindset he has had over the first three days.
