The company intends to increase the interest of users to its own search engine.

Following the US, Microsoft launched its Rewards program in the UK Wednesday.

This is how Microsoft has explained the procedure, "The more searches you do through Bing, the more points you will earn", according to a post.

Level 1 users can earn a maximum of 30 points per day - 60 if they are using Edge - through searches or by participating in quizzes.

Any searches you make that day after earning maximum points won't earn you anything.

In effect, this new programme is much the same thing, and it's coming to France, Germany and Canada "in the coming weeks and months as part of the worldwide roll-out".

Formerly known as Bing Rewards, Microsoft Rewards has now made its way to the UK. Simply use it until you max out your points then switch back to Chrome. Obviously, you can create a free account if you don't have one. But hit Level 2, by bashing Bing for 500 points per month, and you can reap 150 points a day.

What can I use the points for?

With 200 points you can enter sweepstakes to win items such as a Microsoft Surface Pro or Xbox One S. Now Microsoft has migrated the offering for the loyalty program in the UK.

A month's Xbox Live Gold membership requires 6000 points, and a whole year is 29000 points.

Alternatively you can donate to charities including UK Youth, AbilityNet and Special Olympics. Once on Chrome, you can max out the points you can get using Bing in Chrome as well.

As you earn rewards you advance up to a new tier, too.

In second place is Bing with just 10.07 per cent market share - this is despite it being the default search engine on Windows.
