"And there is no dispute between the two countries that Doklam belongs to China", he stated.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to safety and lawful rights and interests of overseas Chinese citizens in accordance with the security condition of the relevant countries", Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told reporters here.

His comments came after weeks of sabre-rattling in New Delhi and Beijing, as officials from both sides talk up a potential clash even bloodier than their 1962 war that left thousands dead.

The confrontation could spill over into the G-20 summit in Germany later this week where Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are expected to meet at a gathering of leaders from five emerging economies on the sidelines of the main event in Hamburg.

"It is also the strategic target both sides have been working to achieve".

China claims about 90,000 square kilometers (35,000 square miles) in the Indian province of Arunachal Pradesh, referred to informally by some Chinese as "Southern Tibet".

Defence Minister ArunJaitley last week said that the India of today is not the same as that of 1962, a retort to China stating that India would do well to remember the "historic lessons" of its defeat in the war fought over Arunachal Pradesh.

More than a dozen rounds of talks have failed to make substantial progress in the dispute, although there have been relatively few confrontations in recent years. Bhutan, however, has no diplomatic ties with China and it is supported militarily and diplomatically by India.

He also cited a note presented by the Indian embassy in China to the Chinese foreign ministry on February 12, 1960.

China has once again urged India to immediately withdraw its border guards that have illegally trespassed into Chinese territory Sikkim, reports Radio Pakistan.

Since then, videos have emerged of Indian and Chinese soldiers blocking each other with their arms and physically jostling without coming to blows.

"We hope India will continue to partner our efforts for strategic security and freedom of navigation in the South China Sea on the basis of global law and legal convention", Vietnamese foreign minister Pham Binh Minh said at the Delhi Dialogue meeting in New Delhi this week, according to the Deccan Herald.

"This time, we must teach New Delhi a bitter lesson", the editorial said.

The Chinese military announced earlier the People's Liberation Army (PLA) was testing a new lightweight tank designed for mountain terrain in the Himalayan region.

Meanwhile, the more mainstream China Daily suggested that some in the Indian military were seeking payback for the 1962 war.

It also said Indians will be "kicked out" of Doklam by the Chinese military.

CONTRARY to the Chinese Government's assertion that Jawaharlal Nehru had accepted the 1890 Sino-British treaty over Sikkim to buttress Beijing's claim over the Doka La area, the former Prime Minister had pointed out to China that it was claiming sizeable part of Bhutan's territory. Bhutan has opposed it, and says the ownership of Doklam is yet to be decided. "There is thus no dispute regarding the boundary of Sikkim with the Tibet region", Nehru said.
