He would later on average 10.2 points per game, 0.2 blocks per game, 1.1 steals per game, 4.2 assists per game, and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.7% from the field and 40.4% from beyond the arc.
He is the second former Virginia basketball player to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award, joining Ralph Sampson, who averaged 21 points and 11.1 rebounds en route to NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1984. Brogdon beat out Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and Dario Saric for the award. He averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Brogdon was a backup at the University of Virginia in his freshman season, but unlike 2017 National Basketball Association draftees Harry Giles (Duke) and Zach Collins (Gonzaga), he wasn't coveted enough to flip that setback into being a first-round pick.
Both Embiid and Saric are among the top-three finalists for NBA Rookie of The Year, to be announced Monday night on the NBA's inaugural Awards Show. It's not an award for health, though, and the margin between Embiid's production and that of Brogdon - even with Milwaukee's more successful season - is far too great to warrant favoring the Bucks' youngster for an award that's based on production.
Heat's Rodney McGruder finishes just short of making NBA All-Rookie team
Antetokounmpo is the sixth Buck to be named to an NBA All-Defensive team and the first since Alvin Robertson was a First Team All-Defensive Team pick in 1990-91. Saric shot 41 percent from the field and 31 percent from three-point range. Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert and Chris Paul of the L.A. Clippers were also named First Team All-Defense.
The Clippers' Chris Paul and Houston's Patrick Beverley were the two guards on the first team.
Earlier Monday, Brogdon and Saric were unanimously selected to the NBA All-Rookie first team.
The second team was Denver's Jamal Murray, Boston's Jaylen Brown, the Suns' Marquese Chriss, Lakers guard Brandon Ingram and Dallas guard Yogi Ferrell. They're the first teammates since 2008 to make the first team together.
