For a limited time (UploadVR claims six weeks although I don't see where that listed on any official source) Oculus has reduced the price of the Rift + Touch VR system from $598 to $399 United States dollars. Now, as part of its Summer of Rift campaign, Oculus is shooting for that magical price: $399 for the headset and Touch controllers. The headset alone initially launched at $599 previous year before seeing its first price drop in March to $499. With its aggressive price drop, Oculus likely wants to position the Rift as a value-competitive way for players to get into VR. In a post Monday, Oculus announced that it will temporarily drop the price for a full Rift bundle to $399. However, the latest discounted bundle seems like a steal with its included Oculus Rift headset and official controllers together with all the accessories to run it out-of-the-box.
Speculation comes in with two possibilities: either Oculus isn't selling units fast enough to drive those game sales, and is sitting on excessive stock; or there is the potential for an imminent Rift 2.0 launch in the coming months.
Before this year the Oculus cut its price. You have to add an item to your basket from the Oculus website, and then on the next page it'll show you some related products.
Further, Rubin said that even the Sony PlayStation was put on sale, "and they're not in desperation to sell hardware".

Kanye West reportedly cuts ties with Jay Z's Tidal service
Jay-Z is now a major shareholder in the company, along with Sprint, which purchased 33 percent of Tidal in January 2017. The legal war started after Kanye's Saint Pablo album brought in more than 1 million new subscribers to Tidal .
Sony to start making records again 30 years after abandoning vinyl
The company is searching for retired record engineers to advise its new record-making venture, according to Nikkei . Sony stopped its in-house vinyl production in 1989, relying on outsourcing to focus on CD production instead.
The HTC Vive, which is seen by many as the Rift's most direct competitor, is still retailing for $799 at the time of writing.
The good news is that at the lower price more people will get to try Oculus and potentially get excited about the technology's potential. It's the second time this year that Facebook has discounted Oculus gear.
The price drop also goes a long way toward dramatically reducing the overall price of VR set-ups when you factor in the additional price of buying a VR-ready PC, which is necessary when using the Rift.
