The Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot Justine Damond, née Ruszczyk, outside of her home on Saturday night has reportedly been identified as Officer Mohamed Noor, MPR News reported on Monday.

Damond was reportedly shot while in her pajamas, after walking to the driver's side of a police vehicle to talk to one of two responding officers, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper, which quoted three anonymous sources.

Authorities in the U.S. state of Minnesota on Monday were investigating the police-involved shooting of an Australian woman, who was killed under mysterious circumstances after placing an emergency call.

Justine Damond was shot to death after calling 911 to report a sexual assault nearby.

In the wake of the incident, it was revealed that the officers did not have their body cameras turned on, and the squad camera "did not capture the incident". Now, Noor and Harrity are both on paid administrative leave.

He had three previous complaints against him, of which two remain open, according to records from the Minneapolis Office of Police Conduct Review Department.

The Department of Public Safety's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said an investigation was under way and authorities were looking into whether there was any video of the incident. The two were set to marry next month and she had already taken his name professionally. "We only ask that the light of justice shine down on the circumstances of her death", he said.

The family of an Australian woman shot dead by USA police have demanded answers following her death. He said that she called the police because she thought something bad was happening to someone else.

It's not clear what led to the shooting, which is being investigated by Minnesota's state investigative agency.

According to Heavy, Justine was shot multiple times by Noor when Damond was holding a cellphone.

Damond's stepson posted a Facebook Live video demanding answers about why a police officer shot her.

Joan Hargrave, a neighbour of Ms Damond, said: "I would call her just a deep, kind-hearted person". She said the department has requested an expedited external, independent investigation to ensure transparency.

Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges said she was "heartsick and deeply disturbed".

According to her website, she is a "qualified yoga instructor, a personal health and life coach and meditation teacher".

I also want to assure you that I understand why so many people have so many questions at this point. "This is a tragedy-for the family, for a neighborhood I know well, and for our whole city".

Mr Damond continued: "Our lives are forever changed as a result of knowing her".

"It's hard to fathom how to go forward without her in my life".

The mayor said she, like many others, wants to know why the officers' body cameras weren't on.
