Kyrgios has revelled in the slick conditions in Cincinnati, overwhelming Ivo Karlovic, incoming world No 1 Rafael Nadal and Ferrer in successive matches.

He spent an hour and 37 minutes on court in the afternoon while beating fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in a match carried over from the previous night.

Pliskova, fighting to hold off Romania's Simona Halep atop the rankings, first ousted Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in a rain-postponed match.

Against Ferrer, Kyrgios was forced to chase down ball after ball, being ran from corner to corner by the Spaniard.

"Today was one of those matches that I really had to just be patient, I knew I'm not going to have that many rallies against John" said Dimitrov in his post match press conference.

"I'm not playing my best tennis in this moment but I'm still winning", Halep said.

Kyrgios, ranked 23rd, faces Spain's David Ferrer for a finals berth.

Australian Nick Krygios will take on Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the Cincinnati Open men's final after both won their semi final ties on Saturday.

"To be No. 1 after all the things I've been going through the last couple years is something unbelievable", Nadal said.

The two talented longshots at the start of the event both had similar semifinals matches, with both ending without a single break of serve.

The second set followed a similar pattern, with the sole break point arriving in game 10 when Dimitrov was briefly offered a first match point. In 2014, Kyrgios became an overnight sensation when he stunned Nadal in the fourth round of the Wimbledon.

The Pliskova-Wozniacki victor will advance to a Saturday semi-final against Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza, who ousted Russian eighth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 in a matchup of two-time Grand Slam winners that lasted two hours, 45 minutes. I think in the end of the match, it was just a few points that made the biggest difference for me.

It is Kyrgios' third Masters' quarter-final of the year but it has been a tough season for the talented, but frustrating, Australian. Neither player converted a service break in the marathon match.

'And then I played a bad game. "I recover well, so definitely I will be ready. I'm always trying to hit underneath and trying to hit up and over it", Kyrgios said after his first win over Ferrer.
