"Thank you to Prime Minister of Australia for telling the truth about our very civil conversation that FAKE NEWS media lied about", Trump tweeted last February, amid reports he lashed out at his Australian counterpart over the phone. "They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people", he added, in an apparent reference to dairy farms in the US.

"And now I am agreeing to take 2000 people and I agree I can vet them, but that puts me in a bad position".

Although Trump called the refugee deal "dumb" in a February tweet, Vice President Mike Pence confirmed in April that the United States would be honoring the commitment to Australia "out of respect to this enormously important alliance".

The President also boasted of his electoral victory, "They said I had no way to 270 and I got 306 (electoral colleges) and spoke in his trademark blunt style throughout the conversation".

For context, this phone call occurred just one day after Trump signed his original executive order banning refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries for 90 days and banning Syrian refugees indefinitely. "As far as I am concerned, that is enough, Malcolm. That is why they are in prison right now", he said.

"You can count on me, " the Australian prime minister said. I will study this dumb deal! "So we said if you try to come to Australia by boat, even if we think you are the best person in the world, even if you are a Noble [sic] Prize winning genius, we will not let you in".

"I hate having to do it, but I am still going to vet them very closely".

Scaramucci is the flawless fit for Trump's communications chief
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer speaks during a briefing in the Brady Briefing Room of the White House on March 24. The New York Times also reported that White House chief of staff Reince Priebus attempted to block the nomination .

The classified transcript of the January 28 conversation between the two leaders was published Thursday night (AEST) by The Washington Post, along with the contents of another call between Mr Trump and the Mexican President Peña Nieto.

Trump added that Australia was trying to send the "next Boston bombers" into the U.S., according to reports at the time.

Following Turnbull's commitment comment, Trump cuts him off: "Okay, this shows me to be a dope".

Describing the refugee deal once more, Mr Trump said: "It is important to you and it is embarrassing to me.

They are not going to be wonderful people who go on to work for the local milk people", Trump said, seemingly a reference to the massive US dairy industry.

"(But) if you are going to say that Mexico is not going to pay for the wall, then I do not want to meet with you guys anymore because I can not live with that", Trump said. Putin was a pleasant call. The call ended with them thanking each other.

The US president acknowledged the domestic political difficulties of the issue for Pena Nieto and said a "formula" could be worked out for funding the wall along the southern US border with Mexico. "I will be there again and again".
