"If North Korea will continue following this path, then North Korea will not have a bright future. Japan and Russian Federation will work together in the global society for that", Abe said in a televised statement. Previous estimates have ranged from 50 kilotons to 120 kilotons.

The unstable regime in Pyongyang has concluded that its only hope of self-preservation, in the face of provocative threats from an unstable Trump administration, is to try and expand its nuclear arsenal as quickly as possible. "The fact that a nuclear bomb with a certain level of energy output has been developed, is a large threat not only for Japan but for the worldwide society".

South Korea has said the launchers for the USA missile defense system known as THAAD would be installed in the face of the growing threat from Pyongyang. A single battery consists of six, truck-mounted launchers, 48 interceptor missiles, a fire control and communications unit, and the AN/TPY-2 radar. "China has not just influence but has numerous levers that are needed to change behaviour in North Korea", Fallon told BBC radio. The country's official news wire quoted a senior official Wednesday expressing pure joy over Pyongyang's nuclear prowess.

"I believe the situation may enter an uncontrollable state if the North does not halt its provocations".

"We must make North Korea immediately and fully comply with all relevant UN Security Council resolutions and abandon all its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner", Abe insisted.

South Korea is closely watching North Korea over the possibility it may test-launch an intercontinental ballistic missile as soon as Saturday when it celebrates its founding anniversary.

North Korea says it needs to develop its weapons to defend itself against what it sees as USA aggression. American strategists regard domination of the vast Eurasian land mass as the key to USA global hegemony and China as the chief obstacle to that goal.

The danger is that Trump will resort to a war against North Korea with incalculable consequences, as a means of directing acute domestic class tensions outwards against an external foe.

Officials stressed the government's stance that the additional launchers are a "tentative" measure resulting from the urgent threat posed by North Korea.

Known as "freeze for freeze", the proposal calls for Pyongyang to freeze its nuclear program in exchange for the United States and South Korea suspending their joint military drills.

The U.N. Security Council is now debating imposing tougher sanctions on North Korea, with Japan and the United States pushing for an oil embargo on the reclusive state. It has taken retaliatory steps against South Korean businesses.

Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May agreed in a telephone call on Tuesday that China, the North's main ally and trading partner, must do more to persuade North Korea to cease its missile tests, a spokesman for May said.

"In terms of exercises, all militaries train and do exercises".

The THAAD deployment has provoked significant opposition in South Korea.

Xi has made few comments since Sunday's test, and all but ignored the issue in closing statements to the BRICS summit on Wednesday.

The paper went so far as to warn that Koreans had better pray for world peace after building more Buddhist temples and Christian churches because it will become a strategic target of China and Russian Federation.
