The Navy football team, coming off a 42-19 victory over Florida Atlantic, received five votes in the Amway Coaches Poll and one in the Associated Press poll. The Badgers opened the season at No. 10 in the Coaches poll, which marked their first preseason top-10 appearance there since 2011.
The Seminoles checked in at No. 10 in the latest rankings following their 24-7 loss to top-ranked Alabama, which took advantage of FSU's multiple special teams miscues to claim a victory in a highly anticipated season opener at $1.5 billion Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Other notable slips on the polls include No. 4 USC, who fell back to No. 6 this week after needing four quarters to put away an unranked Western Michigan team at home on Saturday. The Buckeyes held firm at No. 2 while defending champion Clemson ascended two spots to No. 3 following its 56-3 rout of Kent State. Washington 8. MI 9. Oklahoma State 12. LSU 13.
The weekend featured two other matchups between ranked teams, including a dominant performance from the No. 11 Michigan Wolverines against the offensively challenged No. 17 Florida Gators.
