An active shooter was reported at a high school in Columbus, Ohio as police warned people to stay out of the area early Friday.

Columbus Police spokesperson Denise Alex-Bouzounis says no students or faculty were injured.

District spokesperson Scott Varner said the school was placed on lockdown as crews responded to the area.

School officials say students attending Columbus Scioto have emotional, social or behavioral challenges. Columbus Police wrote on Twitter. He has been charged with improperly discharging a firearm in a school safety zone.

The school serves grades six through 12, and is geared toward special needs and "emotionally disturbed students", according to Scioto school's website. Most of the staff are intervention specialists-allowing them to utilize behavior modification techniques to produce positive results, the local station noted. Teachers and staff will still report.
