Saturday morning President Donald Trump accused the mayor of Puerto Rico of "poor leadership" one day after her plea for more help.
Puerto Ricans reacted harshly on Saturday to President Trump's tweets that leaders of the hurricane-ravaged Caribbean island "want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort". "10,000 federal workers now on island doing a good job".
In a memo, White House aide Tom Bossert said he hopes to "turn the corner on our public communications" on the recovery efforts following Maria, which devastated Puerto Rico as a Category Four hurricane on September 20.
He also tweeted: "Results of recovery efforts will speak much louder than complaints by San Juan Mayor".
Puerto Rico, home to more than 3 million US citizens, has had limited food, bottled water and medical supplies since Hurricane Maria struck nine days ago. "I wouldn't be surprised if he said, I need more troops in order to manage this distribution until Puerto Rico itself can get back on its feet", she said.
The reporters are doing their best to reflect what Puerto Ricans are going through. "I mean, the mayor is reacting to a very chaotic situation in Puerto Rico". About half of the island's 3.4 million people do not have access to drinking water, and 95 percent remain without power, according to the Pentagon. "My understanding is that as of yesterday, she had not even been to the FEMA operation center in her own city", Mulvaney said on CNN. Residents in Puerto Rico were left without food, water, gasoline and electricity.

On Friday, the company announced that two executives, its chief information officer and chief security officer, would leave the company immediately.
The President stirred things up with a series of tweets Saturday from his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is spending the weekend. FEMA Administrator Brock Long defended his agency's response in a Sunday interview on "This Week", saying Cruz needs to be more engaged with coordination efforts on the island by meeting regularly at a joint field office established by the agency.
"I think it's unfair to say we haven't done everything we can because we have done everything that we can and will continue to do so", Mulvaney said.
After his hotel manager told him of a children's hospital that was running out of diesel for its generators, he posted the news on social media and government officials responded with help.
Pop star Lady Gaga wrote on Twitter: "I this it's clear where the "poor leadership" lies @realDonaldTrump Puerto Rico is part of the United States".
The recovery effort in Puerto Rico remains challenging ten days after Hurricane Maria hit. Our Revolution says she has made San Juan "the first and only municipality" on the island where employees have the right to collective bargaining, made steps towards a local version of a universal health care plan, and is an advocate for gender equality, LGBT rights, and rights for disabled people.
Mulvaney said some people were looking for reasons to snipe at the Trump administration and that the public should consider the administration's actions over words.
