As the head of the Manson Family, Manson brainwashed his followers with visions of "Helter Skelter", an apocalyptic race war that he believed was imminent, based on his interpretation of the Bible and lyrics on The Beatles' White Album. Victims of a serial killer was the actress Sharon Tate, is the wife of Director Roman Polanski, and four of her friends. The word "pig" was written on the front door in blood.

The Times reported Manson's condition is unclear. He has been denied parole 12 times, the most recent time in 2012. A spokeswoman for the hospital declined to comment.
