Charles Manson is in the hospital and, as one source familiar with his situation tells TMZ, "it's not going to get any better for him".

UPDATE (4:58 a.m.): The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says Charles Manson is still alive.

In the late 1960s, Manson was the leader of a cult, "The Family", with about 100 members in the San Fernando Valley of California.

As the head of the Manson Family, Manson brainwashed his followers with visions of "Helter Skelter", an apocalyptic race war that he believed was imminent, based on his interpretation of the Bible and lyrics on The Beatles' White Album. Victims of a serial killer was the actress Sharon Tate, is the wife of Director Roman Polanski, and four of her friends. The word "pig" was written on the front door in blood.

The next night, Watson and two female cult members tied up and stabbed Leon and Rosemary LaBianca to death in their Los Angeles home. But a 1972 ruling by the California Supreme Court found the state's death penalty law at the time unconstitutional, and his sentence was changed to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

The Times reported Manson's condition is unclear. He has been denied parole 12 times, the most recent time in 2012. A spokeswoman for the hospital declined to comment.
