The indictments of two former Trump campaign aides on Monday have nothing to do with President Donald Trump or his campaign and show no evidence of collusion between the campaign and Russian Federation, a White House spokeswoman said.
Papadopoulos was one of five people announced to be part of Trump's foreign policy team in March of a year ago.
But the bigger story came later yesterday when it was revealed that former policy adviser George Papadopoulos had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI during the Russian investigation.
Sanders also raised a few eyebrows by starting the press briefing by using an analogy of reporters getting drunk and trying to split the tab to illustrate tax reform.
Apparently, Papadopoulos is co-operating with special prosecutor Robert Mueller and supplying records of meetings with Russian officials to "get dirt" on Hillary Clinton and subsequent meetings with high-ranking Trump officials to allegedly relay that information.
"There's clear evidence of the Clinton campaign colluding with Russian intelligence to spread disinformation and smear the president to influence the election", Sanders said.

CNN has fact-checked the Trump administration in the past on its chyron.
According to court documents, Papadopolous' false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation concerned his contact with a professor with connections to the Russian government about "thousands of emails" that could damage Hillary Clinton.
A Trump campaign supervisor encouraged Papadopoulos to make the trip "if it is feasible" on August 15, 2016.
Sanders emphasized that she's "not sure that the president recalls specific details" of a March 31 national security team meeting at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C.in which Papadopoulos was present.
Throughout the briefing, Sanders continued to distance the Trump campaign from the activities of Manafort, Gates and Papadopoulos.
