- Deputies say the suspect in the fatal shooting of a Texas DPS trooper in Freestone County has been taken into custody in Waller County. The Harris County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter that Black was apprehended Thursday night in neighboring Waller County, more than 100 miles (161 kilometers) south of where the trooper was shot.
A Texas DPS trooper was shot and killed Thursday afternoon about 90 miles southeast of Dallas, according to Navarro County EMS.
DPS said Black, of Lindale, Texas, fled the scene in a vehicle and was spotted about three hours later more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of Fairfield, in Waller County.
The Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement agencies identified the suspect as 32-year-old Dabrett Black. Officials urge anyone who sees this man to contact law enforcement and do not approach him. Trooper Allen was killed at the scene. Waller County authorities said shots were fired, but did not indicate who opened fire. "Trooper Damon Allen was a loving husband and father of three, and we ask for your prayers for his entire family and his many friends and colleagues during the hard days ahead".

Trooper Allen, 41, was commissioned as a Trooper in July of 2002, and he was stationed in Groesbeck at the time of his death.
