Today, Blizzard announced that the Overwatch Winter Wonderland seasonal event would be making a return on December 12, likely lasting until January 2, as each event is usually three weeks long. Old maps King's Row and Hanamura will receive "seasonal passes", or themed decorations for the holidays. Kaplan hinted that Hanzo, Junkrat, and Roadhog are getting legendaries.
In a new developer update, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan explains all of the skins introduced during last year's event will be returning this year. "I think it's one of the most gorgeous jobs that our environmental artists have ever done", he says. You can once again enjoy the Global Snowball Offensive mode that has a team of Meis throwing balls of fresh powder at one another, but you can now play that mode on the Black Forest map as well.

While Winter Wonderland is a revival of last year's event, Blizzard is bringing some major new additions. It's an asymmetrical multiplayer mode: Modeled after a boss fight à la Evolve, it pits five Meis against one "yeti", Winston. Mei has a new ability that's specific to this mode, Ice Trap, and she can use it along with her usual Ice Wall to fend off the yeti. If he fully charges it up, the Meis will need to do whatever they can to escape. If the Meis kill Winston, they win. If he gets enough of that meat, he will go into Primal Rage mode and then the tables turn.
