Shillong/Guwahati: In what may be seen as a major setback for the ruling Congress party in the frontier state of Meghalaya, eight MLAs including five from Congress party on Friday resigned from their membership of the state assembly to join National Peoples Party (NPP). Only recently, a former NPP MLA from Baghmara, Satto R Marak, resigned after being denied the party ticket and joined BJP.
Besides the Congress legislators, the other three sitting MLAs who would also resigned include United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator, Remington Pyngrope and two Independent members - Stephanson Mukhim and Hopeful Bamon.
While Omillo and John Manner were members of the National People's Party, Hitler and Billykid were former Congress MLAs.
Stating his heart still beats for Congress, he said, he chose to move on and would formally join National Peoples Party (NPP) as he was ill-treated and humiliated for being an old man..
Meanwhile, another former senior Congress leader, Prestone Tynsong said that he had problem with the Chief Minister over his style of functioning.
It may be mentioned that till 2016, Lyngdoh was the Deputy Chief Minister of the State before he was dropped by the Chief Minister from the Cabinet.
