After a recent incident over demonetization currency in Delhi on November 2017, Kanpur police also gets the success over recovering the demonetized currency which is around Rs. 100 crore.
It may be recalled, separate police teams acting on a specific tip-off that a gang of old currency racketeers from eastern parts including Varanasi and Mirzapur districts, of the state, besides West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states were putting up at different hotels inluding hotel Gagan, hotel Bliss and hotel Namaskar located in separate parts of the city with banned currency, raids were conducted and 13 people were arrested.
On Wednesday Kanpur Police raid at the premises of a resident of Kanpur and collected a huge amount from his locked room.
The government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes on November 8, 2017. The counting of currency notes is underway and questioning is on. "The under-construction house belongs to businessman Anand Khatre who is among the arrested", Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kanpur) Anurag Arya told The Indian Express. "We received information of the presence of demonetised currency worth crores at a person's residential premises in Kanpur, and a raid was conducted", senior police officer AK Meena was quoted by NDTV, adding that they were still counting the recovered currency.

Seven people were intercepted by an NIA team in the capital's Connaught Place area when they were carrying 28 cartons filled with demonetised Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes in four vehicles - BMW X3, Hyundai Creta SX, Ford EcoSport and BMW X1, an NIA spokesperson said.
Initially they tried to mislead police, but later during intensive interrogation they broke down and confessed to their crime, the SSP Kanpur said.
At least 16 people have been arrested since the recovery on Tuesday from the house of Anand Khatri, part of Raj Ratan group which has diversified business interests including real estate, healthcare and textile.
