But Democratic Senator Richard Durbin said Trump had specifically asked: 'Do we need more Haitians?' before launching into a diatribe about African immigration.
If you took a look at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night, you might think it was a real shithole.
Robin Bell, who is known to have performed other protests as well, projected the word "shithole" - with which President Donald Trump allegedly referred to countries from which he does not favor immigrants coming to the U.S. - over the entrance of the Trump International Hotel in Washington, just a stone's throw from the White House, according to a video posted on Bell's Twitter account.
Another clip shows the word "S***HOLE" over the entrance along with an arrow pointing to the door.
A flood of grinning poop emojis then stream out of the hotel's entrance as'S***HOLE appears in larger text above
The man behind it was Robin Bells, whose Twitter bio describes him as an "award-winning editor, video journalist, and multimedia artist based in Washington DC". Bell has a history of projecting anti-Trump messages on the Trump hotel as well has the Department of Justice.
"Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?" the president is reported to have said during a discussion about protection for immigrants from certain countries in a bipartisan immigration agreement.
The art work was created in reaction to Trump's alleged comments during a meeting regarding immigration with Congressional leaders at the White House. Trump has since denied using the word, though he admitted his language was "tough". He made the claim in a tweet on Friday, January 12, wherein he called Haiti a "very poor and troubled country".
Trump then "said things which were hate-filled, vile and racist, ' Durbin said, adding that 'sh*thole" was 'the exact word used by the president, not just once but repeatedly'.
