At a news conference, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin told reporters that 14 students suffered gunshot wounds, and two of them had died. The two that died were from gunshot wounds.
Kentucky State Police Commissioner Richard Sanders on Tuesday evening identified the students who were fatally shot as Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Ryan Cope.
Garland says his own son, a 16-year-old sophomore, jumped into someone's vehicle and sped away, then made his way to his dad's office. "Everybody at that high school reacted appropriately". That student was a 15-year-old female. He said that the shooter will be charged with murder and attempted murder.
Sanders said the suspect walked into the school with a handgun and started shooting. 911 was contacted soon after.
The Kentucky State Police critical incident response team, FBI and ATF are conducting the investigation and processing the scene now.
Speaking on the floor of the U.S. Senate, McConnell says his staff in western Kentucky is at Marshall County High School and is in close contact with local officials. "I don't think anyone can say one bad thing about him", she said. "The teachers here, and everyone here is pretty nice, so it makes me question why anyone would want to shoot it up", Ethan said.

Students poured out of the school seeking safety, said Mitchell Garland, who rushed outside of his business when he heard about the shooting. The DOE has since deleted that tweet and now says "one person has died".
The suspected shooter is a student at Marshall County High School and was apprehended at the scene. Marshall County has a population of about 31,000 people.
The shooting happened in the town of Benton, which is about 2 and half hours north of Jackson, in Marshall County, Kentucky.
Students ran from the scene after hearing shots, and the school was placed on lockdown as the incident unfolded.
The shooting occurred Tuesday morning.
