Toyota used the worldwide, grand stage of the North American International Auto Show to reveal the fifth-generation of its flagship Avalon.
Toyota has confirmed it will finally embrace CarPlay in its 2019 Avalon and other vehicles launching this year.
Toyota is really doubling down on the large vehicle market even as the market continues to falter and many brands are looking to exit the market.
A Toyota spokesman, commenting to MacRumors, noted that CarPlay will only be available via a wired connection, not wireless-a less-ideal implementation for iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X owners who prefer wireless charging and wireless CarPlay.

Until now, the Japanese automaker had resisted allowing smartphone operating systems access to its infotainment systems, citing security concerns. It's voice controllable too, and compatible with select Android or Apple devices. Toyota hasn't announced other specific auto models that will receive CarPlay throughout 2019, but the company notes that select vehicles with its Entune 3.0 or Enform 2.0 multimedia systems will receive access to Apple's platform.
That consistency doesn't extend to Android Auto - at least not yet.
On the 2019 Avalon, users will be able to interact with CarPlay through the 9-inch capacitive touchscreen.
Toyota has said that the 2019 Avalon will go on sale in late Spring of this year, but it thus far remains silent in regards to pricing.
