Britain's most successful racing driver is expected to commit to the team until the end of the 2021 season on a deal that would increase his salary to £40m a year.
And while he is keen to put pen to paper before the 2018 season begins in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix on 25 March, the Stevenage native insists there is no panic or need to rush into a premature accord.
"This is the first time that I've seen the auto put together", continued Hamilton.

'I've not spoken to another team in six years and that shows how committed I am.
As McLaren technical chief on chassis Tim Goss said on the subject of teams copying each other: "Now we have had a year to learn about the cars and how they perform with these new bodywork regulations, then you will build on that".
"Toto knows that I know there is no one better. and he knows that I know there's no one else better, so I'm not looking anywhere else", said Hamilton, who cruised to the title with two races to spare last season. 'We expect to come up with news soon. One guy shunted me off - I think it was Ham44 - and he didn't know it was me he was pushing off. A couple of weeks is realistic. "Maybe a few weeks".

The W09 was officially revealed in a presentation at Silverstone race track where Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas got the chance to put the new vehicle to the test. He hopes, and possibly expects, this auto will propel him to a fifth world championship.
The Briton says spending time in the United States, Japan and Europe over the winter has helped him recharge ahead of that bid.
Describing the new W09 after a run on the Silverstone circuit, Hamilton said, "This is better than last year's vehicle in every aspect".
"But we always made it clear that if I wanted to engage and look at my options I would inform them and I've not needed to".
"I'm going to try and veer off the negativity, but cars are getting heavier and heavier each year".
