Ramaphosa has been lobbying for Zuma to resign and has said he hopes to conclude talks with him "in coming the interests of the country".

The ANC national executive committee (NEC), which is the highest decision-making body in the party, was due to take a final decision on Zuma's future on Wednesday, but Ramaphosa dramatically cancelled the NEC meeting this week after what he called a "constructive and fruitful" meeting with Zuma on Tuesday.

"For him a necessary condition for the unity of South African people was the unity of the African National Congress".

'We all know and anticipate that they are dealing with the current issue that is facing our country, Faiez Jacobs, the party's provincial secretary, told eNCA television.
