The exclusive franchise tag makes it so the player can only negotiate with his team, and the non-exclusive franchise tag makes it so if a player signs with another team, his original team gets two first-round picks.

The franchise tag for cornerbacks is expected to be around $15 million, which is a nice upgrade for Fuller after making just more than $3 million in 2017. Opposed to the franchise tag, the Bears won't receive any compensation should they choose not to match an offer Fuller receives from another team.

The Bears have come up with a more creative and less expensive way of keeping free-agent cornerback Kyle Fuller. For Fuller, that means a 2018 salary of $12.971 million instead of $14.975 million this season. A first round draft pick in 2014, Fuller finished 2017 with a career-high 69 tackles and 22 passes defended along with two interceptions. But, after being called out by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Fuller bounced back with his best season. His 22 pass breakups were tied for second in the National Football League, including six in Week 16, the most by any player in one game in 2017. Since they decided not to exercise the fifth year option for their former first round pick, Fuller had the chance to hit the free agent market next week-that is, if the Bears decided not to tag him.

That's bad news for Chiefs fans who wanted to see their favorite team bring in Kyle Fuller to play alongside his younger brother, Kendall Fuller, who was a primary part of the prize when they traded Alex Smith to Washington in January.

Fuller, 26, thrived as a rookie, tallying four interceptions and 10 passes defensed as a 14-game starter.
