Los Angeles police say they believe a body found in a shallow Northern California grave is that of an aspiring model and actress from Macedonia who vanished in Los Angeles last month. Sheriff's officials from Nevada County said on Wednesday that Shabani, 25, was identified through her tattoos.
"The condition of that body was... it wasn't in pristine condition", said Sheriff's Lt. Rob Bringolf.
An autopsy will determine how Shabani died, police said. The exact cause will be "determined after toxicology and tissue analysis", officials said.
Police are treating the death as a homicide and believe the 25-year-old's boyfriend, Christopher Spotz, who killed himself last week after a stand-off with police, was involved, the BBC News reported.
"We tried calling her, messaging her, emailing her, Facebooking her, Instagramming her-every way, nothing", said Antonio Esocvar, a friend.
LAPD only confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the search was related to Shabani's disappearance.
Speaking in a press conference on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Angeles Police Department said: 'At this point in time, we believe that those remains are the body of Miss.

Ex-Playboy model who alleges affair with Trump sues to break silence
However, McDougal says there's been nothing but "radio silence" about being on magazine covers and to writing the monthly column. McDougal led a "Hollywood" life, attending events and parties as both honored guest and hostess", according to court documents.
PC Hayes said detectives suspect that the model has been dead for more than a month and suspect Spotz to behind her death.
Shabani moved from Macedonia and had been in Los Angeles less than two years, according to her friends. As part of the investigation, detectives could not corroborate details of Spotz's account and continued to look into his story.
Bringolf did not give any details on the missing person case, but Fox40 in Sacramento, citing a "trusted source close to the investigation", reported that remains found at the site are possibly those of Adea Shabani.
Investigators had previously searched the Lake of the Woods wildlife area in Nicolaus, California to no avail before they found the remains in Nevada County, Hayes explained.
On March 1, detectives went to Northern California, where Spotz's father lived, to try and glean more information about where Spotz and Shabani might be. The suspect was later identified by Riverside County Sheriff's deputies as 33-year-old Christopher Spotz of North Hollywood.
Adea Shabani is seen in a photo released by LAPD. Spotz fled, prompting a chase that stretched from Hesperia to Corona, where authorities say Spotz fatally shot himself along the 91 Freeway.
