So, it's little wonder why our leaders have repeatedly cowed to the gun lobby's demands and have refused to budge in any foreseeable way regarding legislation that could anger the private influence to whom they are so deeply beholden. Don't like the Second Amendment? I disagree. It's not by keeping guns in our homes, but maintaining the vibrant checks and balances provided by our Constitution and laws, and a vigorous and free press that prevents dictatorship. Getting to 2/3 consensus might prove hard if not impossible. But, a mass movement is needed to begin to meaningfully challenge those legislators who only serve the NRA, or replace them if necessary with those who will put human life above frankly an idolatry of guns.
The U.S. leads all other countries in the world in gun ownership. The current front runner seems to be not allowing gun purchases until the age of 21. We sure are good at giving mixed signals. They, above all, should be aware of the danger and responsibility of owning a weapon.
It is Lent. Maybe if we all went to church and prayed.
